The Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering is welcoming applicants for a PhD Scholarship at the University of Sheffield in the session 2019/2020.

This is an exciting opportunity available for EU/UK students who want to pursue a PhD degree in Medical and Surgical Robotics. The goal of this award is to develop bionic and biomedical robots that support sustained autonomous operation for long-term adaptive healthcare.

The scholarship will provide the Research Council UK (RCUK) fees at the EU/UK level, a stipend for up to 3.5 years and a Research Training and Support Grant (RTSG) of £1000 per annum.

Eligibility

Candidates should have a background in the following fields: Mechanical Engineering (mechanism designs, actuators, fabrication, and mechanics modeling), Electrical Engineering (sensors, remote communication, microcontrollers, and circuit design), Material Engineering (materials modeling, characterization and fabrication, biomaterials), Control (bio-machine interaction, optimization, estimation), Mechatronics or Robotics, or a related field.
